DTI-SCCI ACTIVITY
SIQUIJOR (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and the Siquijor Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc. (SCCII) conducted a Product Development Program for tourism stakeholders in the province last January 30 - 31. The project aims to make use of what is innate among Siquijor residents, what Siquijor is all about, development of more small and medium enterprises producing crafts and other non-food souvenir items under the One Town One Product program, said DTI-Siquijor provincial director Nimfa Virtucio who also informed that a Manila designer conducted Basic Photography and Design Trends and Visual Merchandising training.

TALISAY CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) — The Western Visayas’ Regional Development Council (RDC)’ s Economic Development Committee recently endorsed the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Project of Talisay City dubbed “Talisay City Plaza Complex Heritage Restoration and Redevelopment Project,” which is the local government unit (LGU)’s pilot project of the PPP Center of the Philippines on urban renewal and one of 16 big-ticket projects to be rolled out this year under Office of the President’s flagship PPP program. Public hearings and consultations were conducted by Talisay local government and stakeholders affected and involved. In the plan, no current public market vendor will be displaced.

SAN JOSE, Antique (PIA) — Antique residents have generally complied with the gun ban since its implementation last January 13, 2013 with the only violations so far recorded involved the confiscation of a low caliber revolver from a barangay fiesta spectator in Brgy. Mojon, San Jose, according to Gil Barcenal, Antique provincial election supervisor. A low caliber pistol from a barangay tanod was also confiscated in Barangay Egaña. The gun ban is effect until June 12, 2013.
WHEELCHAIR DONATIONS
CATBALOGAN CITY, Samar (PIA) — Samar indigents with disabilities were given wheelchairs through efforts by the Philippine Army’s 8th Infantry Division last Monday, January 28 at the 8TH ID headquarters, Camp Vicente Lukban, this city. US-based non-profit organization, One World Institute, which provides free wheelchairs to the poor, donated 101 wheelchairs through the Armed Forces of the Philippines’ Central Command and 24 of these wheelchairs were given to the 8th ID for distribution among indigent recipients in Samar and Leyte.
PROVINCIAL ASSISTANCE
TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte (PNA) — The Leyte provincial government, through the Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP), gave reintegration funds to 28 former New People’s Army cadres during a recent Ceremonial Awarding of Financial Assistance in Brgy. Cagnocot, Villaba, Leyte. Civil military officer of the 19th Infantry Battalion, 1st Lt. Rod Vincent Babera said each of the former rebels received P10,000 worth of pre-surfacing assistance while five other former rebels were given an additional P25,000 for surrendering with firearms.The former rebels were confirmed members of Front-Committee Leyte (FC-L).
