ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — An exhibit on the Pambansang Sagisag Kultura para sa Batayang Edukasyong K-12 (National Cultural Icons for the K-12 Curriculum), which is part of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)’s cultural education program along with the Department of Education (DepEd), can be viewed by the public at the University of the Philippines in the Visayas (UPV) Iloilo City Campus until Feb. 15. Featured are notable persons and historical events, language, art, culture and Philippine traditions, indigenous plants and animals, food and materials, and beliefs as part of the Filipino way of life.
MARINA CATICLAN
CATICLAN, Aklan (PNA) — The Maritime Industry Authority (Marina) is eyeing an extension office in Boracay Island gateway, Caticlan in Malay, Aklan, to further improve services to commuters. Marina Regional Director Mary Armi Arcilla said such extension will support the existing satellite office at the Caticlan Jetty Port, which could only accommodate two persons. With said extension office, Marina could conduct stricter inspection of the some 800 roll-on roll-off (RoRo) vessels plying the Caticlan-Batangas or Caticlan-Mindoro-Batangas routes and motorbancas ferrying Caticlan-Boracay-Caticlan passengers.

DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) — Some 5,000 multi-sectoral representatives and students joined in a light-up-for-peace formation at the Perdices Memorial Coliseum in Dumaguete City to form the largest Human Peace Sign for the Guinness Book of World Records. The formation, dubbed “Light Up for Peace,” gathered students and faculty members of Dumaguete City schools, Reserve Officers’ Training Corps and Community Welfare Training Service cadets, military, students and faculty members of Bacolod Cityp-based Negros Oriental High School and St La Salle University, and members of non-government groups, local government units, among others. The event was spearheaded by Silliman University’s Renaissance Youth Leaders Forum (RYLF) in partnership with the University Spiritual Life Council (USLC), Smart Telecommunication, Oriental Negros Children Advocacy network (ONCAN) and Philippine Army.
NEW EQUIPMENT
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) — The Bureau of Fire Protection in Region 6 (BFP-6) is distributing new personal protective equipment (PPE), purchased through public bidding, for the use of its firefighters in the region. BFP-6 Public Information Section Head Inspector Stephen Jardeleza said R14.616 million worth of equipment will be distributed to 72 fire stations in the region. Some R4.729 million worth of equipment includiong firemen’s helmets, fire gloves, fire gloves and boots and sets of fire coats and trousers were purchased. Meanwhile, BFP National issued some R9.886-million worth of PPE including gloves, boots, helments, fire coats and treasurers and self-contained breathing apparatus to BFP-6.
PATROL BOAT
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte PIA) — The Philippine Coast Guard – Maasin City secured funds to buy a patrol boat from the Southern Leyte Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) to strengthen its maritime operations. The said patrol boat was purchased by the PPOC upon request by the Maasin City Coast Guard that its operations be fortified especially since the annual First Mass in Limasawa Island celebration will be observed next month.
