CEBU CITY — The female university student who figured in a scandal video has sought the help of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) in determining who uploaded the sex video that has rocked a Cebu university. The girl was accompanied by officials of the University of San Jose-Recoletos when she went to the NBI office yesterday morning. The girl wants to know who uploaded the video for filing of appropriate charges. The female student did not give any statement although she stressed that she was happy that the university is standing by her side. (Mars W. Mosqueda Jr.)
TESDA PROGRAM
CEBU CITY — Qualified marginalized trainees enrolled in the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) VII will soon get the chance to be trained as linemen for free, this after TESDA and the Visayan Electric Company (VECO) signed an agreement for the said undertaking. VECO will conduct the Lineman’s Basic Training program for deserving trainees enrolled in TESDA 7 Regional Training Center. TESDA Director-General Joel Villanueva and VECO Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Sebastian Lacson recently signed the agreement which involves a 22-day training program to be held at the VECO Development Academy (VDA) in this city. TACLOBAN CITY, Leyte – The Department of Agriculture (DA) has taken another major initiative in its quest to reduce poverty in the three Samar provinces. This time, the agency is banking not just on crops, but more on livestock, particularly the sunrise small ruminant industry. Regional Executive Director Antonio Gerundio informed that presently, the DA-8 is spearheading the implementation of the Samar Island Small Ruminant Rural Enterprise Development (SA-SR-RED) Project. This is a five-year (2013-2017) multi-agency project focusing on goat and sheep production, Gerundio said. (PIA)

CEBU CITY — Cebuanos are invited to join the “Million Volunteer Run 2” organized by Philippine Red Cross (PRC) Cebu Chapter on Feb. 10, 5 a.m. at Sumilon Road, Cebu Business Park. On its second stint this year, the run aims to raise funds to finance the major services of PRC chapters while creating a culture of volunteerism in the country. In Cebu province, there are two PRC chapters, namely Cebu Chapter and Lapu-Lapu Chapter. To date, there are still less than a thousand who signed up to join the run for a cause, PRC Cebu Chapter Service Representative-Fund Raising Cyress Joan Catin told the Philippine Information Agency. TACLOBAN CITY Leyte — The Department of Education in Eastern Visayas has started preparations for its hosting of two big national events, the National Talent Festival on April 6-11 and the National School Press Conference on April 7-12, 2013. During the Convergence Meeting held at the DepEd Regional Office last February 5, DepEd 8 Regional Director Dr. Luisa Bautista-Yu encouraged the various government agencies and DepEd officials from all over the region to collaborate with the host in order to showcase the best of the Region. Yu said about 2,000 participants from all over the country are expected to attend the National Talent Festival which will be conducted in Tacloban City, while another 4,000 participants are expected at the National School Press Conference in Ormoc City.
