The pre-Oscars show, which is the red-carpet gala, left us bored. Almost everyone arrived in “safe” designs that were classic in cut, style, and color. Perhaps, the guests felt the need to keep the awards night solemn and classy. But we sure wished some of them added drama to the unspoken theme, like that of best-dressed Jennifer Lawrence, who was in a dramatic Dior gown.
Check out who stuck to the classics, who won best-dressed (for us), and who made the wrong decisions:
Jennifer Lawrence takes home an Oscar and the best-dressed title in this amazing gown by Dior—crisp, clean and dramatic! We all loved the “performance” of this creation
Seems like K. Stew isn’t the only one who feels “fluffy.” Jennifer Garner chooses a more voluminous piece by Gucci. Her whole back was bursting with ruffles that could have worked if worn on a younger woman perhaps
Oh, Nicole Kidman… What were you thinking? Or what was the designer, L’Wren Scott, thinking?Definitely not classy at all. The liquefying effect of the sequins, and the black and gold combination of swirls simply doesn’t work on this Aussie gal
As always, Kristen Stewart looks awkward in this ReemAcra dress. It’s ill-fitting and she looks uncomfortable in it. And what’s up with the tulle trail?
Salma Hayek looks like she’s suffocating in this beaded/lace neckline by Alexander McQueen. She should have stayed with her trademark soft and sexy pieces. The velour fabric looks too heavy on this petite lady
Adele has perfected her hair and makeup look—romantic! But this black beaded dress by Jenny Packham did nothing for an award-winning singer like her
Anne Hathaway’s pale pink gown by Prada didn’t do wonders for her. The seamed bust area made it look like her nipples were showing, but they're not. The necklace looks dated, too! Her saving grace? Her cropped ‘do and that pretty smile
Naomi Watts reminds us of an armored Joan of Arc in this one-shoulder gilded dress by Armani Privé. It’s not a surprise to see her in this look, as she sticks to her style formula. The messy hair makes her look older than she really is. A sleeker hairstyle would have been better
Reese Witherspoon picks a refreshing blue shade as her gown of choice (by Louis Vuitton), but the cut and style are just too boring for a celebrity to wear for any occasion. A nice set of bejeweled danglers or a bold neckpiece would have helped
Jennifer Hudson goes for subtle sheen in this velvet leopard number by Roberto Cavalli. Her blunt bangs and long hair work well with this outfit, but the blue satin peep-toes could have been replaced with some sparkling ones
Catherine Zeta-Jones wears this gold foil-ish gown by ZuhairMurad. The dropped earrings didn’t help to add classiness to this theatrical piece
We sure wished Helen Hunt had her H&M gown ironed well, or maybe she should have avoided moving around too much. The wrinkles and the wanted folds didn’t make this a photogenic piece
Kelly Osborne keeps the focus on her face by highlighting her purple-onion-hued hair and red orange lips. She adds softness to her edgy hair and makeup in a black tulle dress by Tony Ward Couture
Amanda Seyfried is in a lovely keyhole neckline dress by Alexander McQueen. Her slightly messy up ‘do works with this delicate embroidered gown.Still, a classic choice
Olivia Munn is in an embroidered bustier satin gown by Marchesa that is neither here nor there. The sad part? Those yellowish gold pair of earrings that made this outfit too costume-y
Jessica Chastain stands out in her Jessica Rabbit look. Her beaded bronze gown by Giorgio Armani serves as the canvas for her red hair and red lips. But that’s it… her hair and lips were the only memorable ones for us
There are just too many details on Zoe Saldana dress by Alexis Mabille. The belted bow is just too much! Good thing she added minimal accessories, but that didn’t save her from this unflattering number
