BAGO CITY, Negros Occ. (PIA) - Bago City gave out environment awards to various barangays and schools here as part of the city’s 47th Charter Day celebration recently. Mayor Ramon D. Torres, Vice Mayor Nicholas M. Yulo and Sangguniang Bayan members awarded “Kasimanwa namon sa Bago, himuon naton ang Kalimpio” (KABAHIN) Inter-school and Barangay Contest winners. The KABAHIN Program was formulated to keep in check and evaluate interventions of barangays and schools on Solid Waste Management and environmental conservation, protection and city regeneration. The contest in coastal and city center category winners were Barangays Taloc, Poblacion and Calumangan for first, second and third winners, respectively. Upland category winners were Barangay Mailum for first place, Barangay Binubuhan for second place and Barangay Bacong for third place; while Lowland South category winners were Barangays Sagasa, Bagroy and Alianza for first, second and third places. Lowland North winners were Barangays Busay, Dulao and Malingin for first, second and third place winners.

ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PIA) - The Ugsad Regional Gender Resource Center in Western Visayas and the University of the Philippines Gender and Development Program are encouraging gender advocates to celebrate the 2013 Women’s Month by participating in the various activities lined up this March. Representatives and GAD Focal Persons of Ugsad member agencies in Region 6 are invited to join in the exhibit showcasing GAD activities to be held at the at the University of the Philippines–Visayas (UPV) campus which will kick off the celebration in the city and Iloilo province today March 6.
RICE SHIPMENT
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) – The National Food Authority (NFA) is shipping out 10,000 bags of rice to Bacolod City to help meet its deficiency. NFA Iloilo Asst. Manager Jose Pacificador said 8,900 bags of rice have been shipped to Bacolod City since last week. The remaining 1,100 bags of rice will be transported anytime soon. Iloilo, which is the third top rice producer in the country, has consistently been supplying rice to Bacolod and Negros Occidental province to help both places with their rice deficiency. In 2012, Iloilo produced over 1,000,000 metric tons of rice.
PHILHEALTH SPONSORSHIPS
MAASIN CITY, Southern Leyte, (PIA) — As the provincial government initiates sponsorship for 40,000 enrollees for the PhilHealth from 2012 up to 2013, Governor Damian G. Mercado is enlisting all barangay officials in the province under the state health insurance. “Barangay officials work hard for government programs to be implemented at the barangay level, and they should be included among the sponsored slots of the provincial government,” Mercado said, adding that “all barangay officials, tanods, and nutrition scholars, among other workers in the province are covered with PhilHealth with the 40,000 sponsored slots appropriated by the provincial government from 2012-2013.”
