National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief, Leonardo Espina, ordered the immediate suspension of two policemen assigned at the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) after a call center agent filed a complaint of alleged robbery extortion against them.
Espina, aside from slapping suspension order to PO1’s George Verbo, Jr. and Thomas Jansen Tulio, both assigned at Fairview Police station in QCPD, also ordered to remove their badge, disarmed and file administrative case against them.
The NCRPO official said Salustiano John Douglas filed a complaint against the two policemen who accosted him while waiting for his live-in partner Nominia Blanco along Buick St., Fairview Quezon City last March 5 at about 10:00 a.m.
The victim claimed that the two policemen together with their police assets, Jerry Sora and Domingo Mendaro accosted him allegedly for illegal possession of drugs and he was brought to the basement of Fairview Police Station where he was physically hurt.
Douglas claimed that the two policemen demanded P20,000 that was lowered to P15,000 in exchange for his release and after giving the amount, he was released without any charges.
The victim immediately reported the abuse and sought police assistance from Supt. Virgilio Fabian, Fairview Police Station’s Station Commander who immediately took action and referred the case to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU-QCPD) .
The two policemen together with one of their assets, Mendaro, were immediately arrested after a complaint was filed against by Insp. Elmer S. Monsalve.
Espina after learning the incident immediately came out with the order and told to resolve the case within 30 days.
He said that the policemen, if found guilty on the charge filed against them, will be dismissed from PNP service.
“Kinukundina ng NCRPO ang mga ganitong gawain. Ipinag-utos ko ang agarang pagsuspinde, pagdisarma, pag-alis ng kanilang tsapa at pagsampa ng kaso laban sa mga tiwaling pulis na ito,” Espina said.
Espina also thanked Douglas for immediately reporting the incident and said that he will not allow any bad policemen to destroy the image of the police force.
