Rachelle Ann Go clinches Gigi role in ‘Miss Saigon’
Filipina singer-actress Rachelle Ann Go has landed a major role in the upcoming West End revival of “Miss Saigon.”
According to a report on Daily Mail UK, Go will play the role of the disillusioned Gigi Van Tranh by May, 2014 when the musical opens at the Prince Edward Theater in London.
With this, Go is set to sing one of the show’s most outstanding songs, “The Movie In My Mind.”
Upon announcement, “#MissSaigon2014RachelleAnnGoAsGigi” trended on Twitter.
The 27-year-old singer could hardly believe the news.
“Good morning!!! I just woke up… i think i’m still dreaming! Totoo na po pala talaga…thank You Lord God. Thank You…,” she tweeted.
The first thing in her mind is how to develop ab muscles since she’ll be wearing a two-piece swimsuit in the show.
Veteran stage actress-singer Isay Alvarez, who had the role in 1989, greeted and gave the new Gigi advice.
“hey rachelle!! Congratulations!! I’m pretty sure you will have a great time there. It’ll be an experience of a lifetime!!!Gbu
“Kung kinaya ko mas kaya mo!I was a MADIR already wen I first did it n 2x a MADIR wen it ran here!IKAW pa!Enjoy but nt 2 much!…

Broadway singer Lea Salonga, the original Kim, further encouraged Go to represent the country well, tweeting “RACHELLE ANN GO! Iwagayway ang bandilang Pilipino! Congratulations on being cast in the West End revival of MISS SAIGON!”
Other Filipina hopefuls who auditioned for the musical were Karylle, Angeline Quinto, Tippy Dos Santos, Frencheska Farr, Aicelle Santos and Rita de Guzman.
Meanwhile, 17-year-old Filipina-American Eva Noblezada is “going to be our new Lea (Salonga),” announced producer Cameron Mackintosh.
Noblezada used to sing in school in Charlotte, North Carolina, but has never done a big musical.
