Region 10, 13 all set for Barangay Elections 2013
BUTUAN CITY – The Commission on Election (Comelec), Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Education (DepEd), Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) expressed readiness and assured they will try their best to make this Barangay Election 2013 a clean, honest, peaceful and orderly.
Other frontline agencies and non-government organizations including NAMFREL and PPCRV also assured to extend their full support to make this election successful.
All concerned agencies set direct lines for a close coordinated effort for immediate response to any problem that may arise right at the polling places on Monday, barangay election, as they have already opened their respective regional, provincial and city action centers in various strategic places under their respective areas of jurisdiction.
Region Xlll Comelec Regional Director Atty. Francisco Pobe, Region 10 Comelec Regional Director Atty. Renato Magbutay and Butuan City Comelec Officer Atty Ernie F. Palanan have reactivated the Regional Joint Security Control Center (RJSCC) and Provincial and City Joint Security Control Center (PCJSCC) with PRO 13 and PRO-10 and the AFP for security.
At least close to 5,000 barangays in Northeastern and Northern Mindanao regions and more than 7,000 are running for Punong Barangays while more than 50,000 for Sangguniang barangay members.
More than 3 million registered voters will cast their votes in these two regions for today’s (Oct. 28) election.
The command and action/monitoring centers of PRO 13 under the command of Regional Director Chief Supt Getulio P. Napeñas and PRO 10 Regional Director Catalino B. Rodriguez, Jr. already deployed their respective augmentation and reaction forces in some barangays that are under their ‘watch list’.
In their latest coordinating command conference, some barangays are under the ‘watch list’ because of the presence of insurgents in Misamis Occidental, Misamis Oriental, Bukidnon and Lanao del Norte; rido or family feud specifically in Lanao del Norte; and intense political rivalry in some parts of Agusan del Sur and Surigao del Sur.
The PRO 13 and PRO 10 have already mobilized at least 7,000 policemen to serve and secure Monday’s Barangay Election.
Brig. Gen. Ricardo R. Visaya, commanding general of the Northeastern and Northern Mindanao Army’s 4th Infantry (Diamond) Division have also mobilized the 401st, 402nd and 403rd Infantry Brigades and their operation control (Opcon) units to assist the Comelec and PNP in securing this election peaceful and orderly.
PNP and AFP are already in full alert status.
“All set and we are ready,” Director Pobe and Director Magbutay said in unison during their last coordinating command conference.
