Sharon Cuneta on a high over new TV5 show
Sharonians finally saw why their idol has been on mega-cloud-nine lately with the successful premiere of “The Mega and the Songwriter” on TV5 last Sept. 15.
Full of excitement and bliss, Megastar Sharon Cuneta attributed TV5’s renewed energy to Wilma Galvante, the network’s new Head of Entertainment Division.
“Kasi wala pa si Ma’am Wilma noon (so) parang kulang ng heart. If you ask me, kulang dati sa wisdom ni Ma’am Wilma (pagdating) sa pag-iintindi sa aming mga artista. Ako in particular, parang ngayon nararamdaman kong I’m part of the TV5 family. So Ma’am Wilma understands that. When she entered, parang lumiwanag ang araw,” said Sharon at the launch of the TV5’s “Weekend Do It Better” primetime block.
“The Mega and the Songwriter” is more Sharon’s forte compared to her defunct show “Sharon: Kasama Mo, Kapatid.” It’s what she was born and honed to do – sing, perform, host and entertain people. Having awarded singer and songwriter Ogie Alcasid as partner on the show spells a winning combination in terms of musicality, entertainment and performance value.
Sharon commented, “One was born nakatawa na yung isa naman mahilig magpatawa. So I’m looking forward to that – may kanta, may katuwaan, may kasiyahan. Kumpleto talaga. It’s to relax our televiewers on a Sunday evening para they get great music from totally talented performers na guests namin. Ogie too is writing new songs and that’s what we want to deliver.”
Spicing up “The Mega and the Songwriter” is its social media component that makes it truly interactive. Viewers can post videos of their performances on the show’s Facebook account and singers of videos with most number of hits get invited to perform on the show. There’s also “iRequest” with the Megastar and “Ask the Songwriter” where Ogie would write an original song for their lucky viewer who wrote the “most interesting and heartwarming story.” As the show’s teaser goes, “The songs of your life for the stories of your life.”
The pilot episode opened with a Sharon and Ogie duet – a medley of “Dito sa Puso Ko” and “Nasa Yo Na Ang Lahat.” Their first guest was ABRA. Their next guest was Charice who opened with “Before It Explodes.” She also had a duet with her girlfriend Alyssa Quijano with the song “How Can an Angel Break My Heart.”
The Charice segment segued to #POST wherein they featured YouTube sensations like Kimpoy Feliciano.
Their show’s theme was “Greatest Hits of All Time” wherein their guests Luke Mejares, Medwin Marfil, Jinky Vidal and Top Suzara rendered numbers which became their greatest hits in the past.
Ogie gave a sample of his segment “Ask the Songwriter” by singing “Aking Anak,” a song for his son Nate. He also shared how memorable the birth of Nate was for him and his wife Regine Velasquez.
Both Sharon and Ogie ended the show with songs by their favorite singers and composers like Rey Valera.
