Showbiz leaders ‘denounce’ Vhong Navarro assault
Several show business leaders have condemned the recent mauling of TV host-comedian Vhong Navarro.
According to the letter published on PEP, “the entire Philippine entertainment industry was shocked to learn of the horrible incident involving TV host-actor Vhong Navarro” the day the news broke out.
The showbiz industry heads pointed out that the perpetrators should have “Let the law prevail (and) let the court decide,” stressing that “No one has any right to inflict torture on anyone regardless of his economic or social standing in society.”
The undersigned, which included “leaders and officers representing the various sectors of the Philippine entertainment industry,” declared that they “unilaterally regret and denounce the brutal attack against our colleague, Mr. Navarro,” adding that they fully support the actor’s “plea for justice.”
They also strongly urged “the concerned government agencies to put an end to the thriving culture of violence and impunity and diminishing sense of humanity in our country.”
Among the signatories were Katipunan ng mga Artista ng Pelikulang Pilipino at Telebisyon president Rez Cortez; Philippine Motion Picture Producers Association president Orly Ilacad; Movie Workers Welfare Foundation (Mowelfund) president Boots Anson-Roa; National Cinema Association of the Philippines V.P. External Affairs Rolando Dueñas; Anti-Film Piracy Council chairman Leonardo Monteverde; Film Academy of the Philippines director-general Leo Martinez; Directors Guild of the Philippines president Joel Lamangan; Professional Artist Managers president June Rufino; and Movie Producer’s Distributors Association of the Philippines president Wilson Tieng.
