Slain Mayor’s daughter links political rival to NAIA ambush
Manila, Philippines – The daughter of slain Labangan Mayor Ukol Talumpa has linked his father’s political rival, Wilson Nandang, to the daring ambush at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) terminal 3 last Friday.
In a two-page letter dated December 22, Rayyam Talumpa informed Justice Secretary Leila de Lima that an eyewitness identified the man who shot and killed Talumpa as a former employee of the Labangan, Zamboanga del Sur municipal government who was closely associated with Nandang.
The eyewitness heard the gunman shouting “Mayor, Mayor, para kay Kitty Nandang ito,” Rayyam said.
Kitty Nandang is said to be the nickname of Wilson Nandang.
In her letter to De Lima, Rayyam alleged that Nandang is in the drug watch list and the leader of the so-called Nandang-Afdal-Malaco drug syndicate.
“I think that the fault of my mother and father was their strong advocacy against illegal drugs in the municipality of Labangan,” Rayyam told De Lima.
She added that her family has material witnesses who are now in hiding but are willing to execute statements to bolster their claim against Nandang and his possible cohorts.
“They (witnesses) intend to supplement said sworn statements as they have now come to identify the identity of the cohort of the assailants who was also seen at the airport when the shooting incident took place,” she said.
Rayyam asked the DOJ to provide them security as some members of the family have been receiving threats.
In an interview, De Lima confirmed that the NBI has already identified the gunman and his cohort in the killing of Talumpa and three others inside the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) last Friday.
