Solon slams P11M airport upgrade for APEC 2015
LEGAZPI CITY, Albay – Rep. Fernando Gonzalez expressed strong disapproval of the provincial government’s effort to shell out P11 million from its coffers to upgrade the international and domestic airports here in time for the APEC Summit in 2015.
Gonzalez, in an interview, said budget for upgrading Albay International Gateway-Legazpi City Domestic Airport must come from the national government and not from the provincial government.
“It is not the responsibility of the provincial government to rehabilitate airports, instead if they have money, they should develop the countryside,” Gonzalez said.
The airport upgrade is set to start next week to accommodate chartered flights from Xiamen China next year.
Engr. Dante Baclao of the Provincial Engineering Office said “my office is just waiting for the memorandum of agreement signed by Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and the provincial government of Albay to formally start construction”.
Meanwhile, Albay Gov. Joey Sarte Salceda said the Philippine Airlines might possibly have the inaugural flight in January 30, when the airport will already have a full customs, immigration and quarantine facilities. By NIÑO LUCES
