South Koreans top 2013 visitors
More South Koreans have visited the country this year than Americans, Japanese and Chinese who were previously the nation’s top group of tourists.
In a press conference, Bureau of Immigration (BI) officer-in-charge Siegfred Mison said more than 1 million Koreans arrived in the country from January 1 to December 5.
The next big group of tourist arrivals were Americans (649,664), followed by Japanese (371,122) and Chinese (313, 395).
The BI chief said China used to be top tourist group during the past two years but went down to number four in 2013, possibly due to ongoing territorial disputes between China and the Philippines. (Jun Ramirez)
