Taguig cheer dancers crowned 2014 champs
Manila, Philippines — Students from Taguig proved once again that they can excel in everything, particularly in “cheer dancing” after the Taguig City University varsity pep squad was recently crowned as this year’s champion of the 2014 Association of Local Colleges and Universities Games cheer dance competition at the University of Makati.
According to the local city government, this is the second straight year that TCU was adjudged as champions in the said competition, besting UMak Pep Squad and City University of Pasay Pep Squad.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano congratulated the TCU pep squad even as she assured that the local government will continue to cheer and support the remaining athletes competing in the ongoing ALCU Games.
“I am proud of our athletes who continue to give pride, not only to their school, but also to our beloved city,” Cayetano said.
“We will continue to support our youth and sports development to gather more future athletes who will represent our city and hopefully our country,” she added.
The local chief executive said that the ALCU Games and the pep squad championship are just a part of the sports events that the city will be participating to help in youth development.
TCU earlier sent 274 athletes to compete against 31 other teams from local government-supported colleges and universities nationwide in various sporting events such as volleyball, basketball, table tennis, taekwondo, arnis, and track and field, among others.
Last year, TCU won third place overall in the ALCU sports meet held in San Pablo City, Laguna.
