Tata Motors to enter in 2014
Tata Motors Ltd., India’s largest automobile company, will be entering the local market in 2014 with Pilipinas Taj Autogroup Inc. (TAJ) as its distributor for passenger and commercial vehicles. The two companies signed a distribution agreement last Oct. 31, solidifying a partnership that was five years in the making.
Pilipinas Taj will formally launch Tata in April of 2014 with dealers and service centers planned in both Metro Manila and the provinces.
Among the vehicles Tata plans to introduce are the Vista hatchback, Manza sedan and Xenon pickup. The marquee will also have several light commercial vehicles with cab chassis configurations. Whether the Nano, the world’s least expensive car made by Tata, will also be sold locally is still being studied.
“We are thrilled to bring to the Philippine market a range of tough and reliable vehicles from India’s largest and most trusted automobile company,” said Pilipinas Taj Autogroup Inc. Chairman and President David Coyukiat, concurrently President and CEO of Pioneer Insurance and Surety Corporation.
“We are excited and have begun our search for dealers who share our vision and values,” said Pilipinas Taj Autogroup Inc. General Manager, Nicky Mariano. “Our dealer network will be set up in time for the launch, and will quickly expand to key cities around Philippines.”
Tata Motors, a subsidiary of the Tata Group, is India’s largest automobile company, ranking 314th in the 2012 Fortune Global 500 of the world’s biggest corporations.
