The International Research Conference in Higher Education 2013
Responding to Global Challenges through Multi-Disciplinary Research
The government, through the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), mandates the promotion of research to push forward the frontiers of knowledge and to develop a culture of research among higher education institutions (HEIs) on the assumption that HEIs should be a major source of research-generated knowledge to benefit the society.
The International Research Conference in Higher Education 2013 (IRCHE 2013) is a two-day activity to be initiated and organized by the Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) and its Office of the Vice President for Research, Extension, Planning, and Development-Research and Extension Management Department, in partnership with various colleges in the university and other international institutions of higher learning. A gathering of educators, scholars, and researchers from various public and private institutions, organizations, and industries not just from the Philippines but also from abroad, the Conference will be held on October 3-4, 2013, at the Historic Landmark Manila Hotel with the theme: “Responding to Global Challenges through Multi-Disciplinary Research,” endorsed by CHED and the National Research Council of the Philippines (NRCP). Former Philippine President and incumbent Manila Mayor Joseph E. Estrada will welcome the delegates who will also be addressed by CHED Chairman Patricia A. Licuanan as the keynote speaker.
The IRCHE 2013 is the continuation of the activity from the successful research conferences organized by PUP in 2004 and 2006. With the overwhelming response of research enthusiasts from universities, industries, and agencies, PUP felt the need to lead once again in this intellectual exploration in higher education in four equally significant research program areas, namely: Science and Technology; Humanities, Social Sciences, and Communication (HUSOCOM); Education, Public Policy, and Governance; and Business and Finance.
The Conference aims to highlight the best practices in providing and nurturing a conducive environment and culture for research; to build and maintain research expertise in HEIs for national development; to capitalize research in the four research program agenda; to explore various modalities of research partnership/linkages between producers and consumers of research skills and knowledge; and to value the significance of strategies and actions for networking among researchers in promoting and sustaining higher education research as well as output utilization. Several international and national scholars, academicians, and policy makers will be conference speakers, including Warren Nevad (University of Tennessee, USA), Dr. Ricardo A. Rotoras (Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges), Dr. Teresita C. Fortuna (Department of Science and Technology), Dr. Harisha G. Joshi (Manipal University, India), Dr. Matthew Eichler (Texas State University, USA), Dr. Adam Kis (Adventist International Institute of Advanced Studies, USA), and Dr. Ester B. Ogena (Philippine Normal University).
We congratulate the Organizing Committee of the International Research Conference in Higher Education 2013 headed by Commission on Higher Education Chairman Patricia A. Licuanan and Polytechnic University of the Philippines President Dr. Emanuel C. De Guzman on the occasion of the International Research Conference in Higher Education 2013. CONGRATULATIONS AND MABUHAY!
