Globe Telecom’s nation-building efforts in areas that bore the brunt of Typhoon “Yolanda” gathered momentum Saturday with the support of Holywood actor Gabriel Macht for the telecommunication company’s livelihood program under Project Wonderful.
In close coordination with Globe Telecom, Macht took part in the telecom company’s nation-building efforts through Project Wonderful program in Ormoc, Leyte. Best known for his role as Harvey Specter in the US TV drama “Suits,” Macht led the rebuilding and reconstruction of sari-sari stores endorsed by the Department of Social Welfare and Development, highlighting the sustainable livelihood opportunities provided by Globe under Project Wonderful. The actor paid Ormoc a visit on Saturday, accompanied by some Globe executives.
As beneficiaries, the stores will serve as retail distribution channel of Globe that will operate prepaid load business powered by Globe AutoloadMax, (AMAX) an electronic reloading service that allows thousands of retailers nationwide to automatically reload prepaid credits to a Globe or TM mobile phone. With an AutoloadMax business, recipients such as sari-sari store owners can grow their income and sustain their livelihood for a longer period of time.
“We are delighted to have found in Gabriel a partner in our nation-building efforts by providing relevant entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities for Typhoon “Yolanda” survivors. We’re hoping that his support for this endeavor will further draw awareness for the need for collaborative work in rebuilding the lives of those severely affected by this calamity now that relief work is mostly done,” Globe President & CEO Ernest Cu said.
A corporate pillar in nation-building efforts for typhoon survivors, Globe has partnered with DSWD in granting business to beneficiaries identified by the agency as part of its Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP), a community-based capacity-building program that seeks to improve the socio-economic status of program participants.
As part of its Project Wonderful program, Globe is focusing on initiatives that will benefit schools, homes, and provide livelihood opportunities. Bringing global attention to its commitment to livelihood, Project Wonderful is hoping that through the support of a high- caliber actor such as Macht, more support will come in months to come.
“Witnessing the devastation of typhoon Haiyan, I felt compelled to raise awareness and financial aid to help thousands of people still struggling to get back on their feet. There is so much work still to do. I’m excited to be a part of rebuilding and I’m hoping that so many more will join the effort,” Macht shared. The actor is also a staunch supporter of organizations such as Australia Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, UNICEF and Parkinson’s Resource Organization, among others.
