DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PIA) – The City Sports Office yesterday held a Fun Run to mark the 113th Civil Service Month at Dumaguete’s Quezon Park. Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria led civil servants in the Fun Run while City Sports and other city hall department heads led the warm-up exercises. The race featured a five-kilometer run and walk joined by Dumaguete local government workers. This year’s Civil Service month celebration promotes, showcases, and celebrates heroism in public service, and highlights stories of accomplishment and sacrifice among men and women in government.
ILOILO CITY, Iloilo (PNA) – Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog has inducted into office eight Iloilo City councilors below 40 years old belonging to the Iloilo chapter of the National Movement of Young Legislators. The city councilors inducted into office were NMYL-Iloilo president Lielex Tupas and NMYL-Iloilo members RLeone Gerochi, Jason Gonzalez, Sheen Marie Mabilog, Liecel Zulueta Salazar, Jay Treñas, Lady Julie Grace Baronda and Plaridel Nava.
TAGBILARAN CITY, Bohol (PNA) – New National Irrigation Administration in Eastern Visayas (NIA-7) regional director Engineer Alejandro Alberca replaced Diosdado Rosales in a recent ceremony attended by, among others, Governor Edgar Chatto; 2nd District Rep. Aris Aumentado; and Davao NIA director Modesto Membreve who was a former NIA-7 director. Membreve said Alcala has ordered a NIA reshuffling nationwide, an offshoot of the President’s expressed displeasure with the agency’s “poor performance” in his speech at NIA’s recent anniversary. Membreve however was quick to point out that Region 7 may not be likened to other regions with unsatisfactory performance. Chatto cited NIA-7’s contribution to Bohol’s rice sufficiency in Bohol and said “Rosales is succeeded by another good director.”
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) – Kalibo traders showed positive response to the installation of Close Circuit Television (CCTVA) in their establishments during a recent public hearing by the Sangguniang Bayan (SB) Committee on Public Utilities, Transportation, Communication, Energy and Facilities on the “Draft Ordinance Requiring all Commercial, Industrial and Educational Establishments To Adopt and Install Closed Circuit Television Security System Within Their Respective Facilities and Providing Penalties for Violation Thereof.” Implementation of the draft ordinance, according to members of the Kalibo SB, will be next year, in time with the renewal of business permits of the municipality’s business community.
CEBU (PIA) – Cebu held a corn stakeholders summit recently to identify existing and potential corn production areas and number of farmers engaged in corn production; gain an outlook of corn production and establish strategies in linking farm produce to markets in the province. Farmer-Scientists Training Program (FSTP) founder and Ramon Magsaysay Awardee Dr. Romulo Davide said the summit was also aimed at crafting a holistic operational plan along with existing programs to augment productivity. “The reason why our corn farmers remain poor is because we just teach them to be farmers and not as entrepreneurs,” he said.
