Tacloban City, Leyte (PIA) — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) in Eastern Visayas is preparing activities to mark Consumer Welfare Month (CWM) in October per Presidential Proclamation No. 1098. The activities will include a three-day Consumers’ Info Fair at Robinson’s Place here, a meat-processing demo by the regional National Meat Inspection Services (NMIS) on October 15; a poster-making competition amongst elementary and high-school students in the morning and a bangus deboning demo in the afternoon of Oct. 16 and recognition of certified business establishment with Consumer Welfare Desk which are DTI Bagwis awardees on October 17.
DUMAGUETE CITY, Negros Oriental (PNA) — Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo has been cited by an international Muslim group, Southern Philippines Muslim Development Association (SPMUDA) International Organization for Peace and Development for his efforts in addressing peace, unity and development in the province. Degamo was given the Peace and Humanitarian Award, appointed global ambassador for peace and unity, and named honorary noble of the royal dynasty by SPMUDA International president and CEO, Datu Camad Ali, who is a Rajah of the Royal House of Baloi, one of the Lanao principalities and one of the most important Royal Houses in Mindanao.
BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occ. (PNA) — The “Nutripan sa Paaralan” feeding program for school year 2012-2014 was launched Tuesday at the Vista Alegre Granada Elementary School (VAGRES) by Mayor Monico Puentevella and Assistant City Schools Superintendent Clarissa Zamora. VAGRES, along with the Estefania Elementary School, F. Gonzaga Elementary School, Isla Elementary School, Patricia Homes Elementary School, A. Lizares Elementary School, Mandalagan Elementary School, Fr. Gratian Murray Integrated School, Paglaum Village Elementary School, and Pahanocoy Baybay Elementary School, will benefit from the program which provides milk and iron and Vitamin A-fortified pandesal to a total of 1,500 malnourished schoolchildren at recess time.
KALIBO, Aklan (PIA) — The Provincial Metrology Center in the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Building at the Provincial Capitol compound is now open and ready to serve Aklanons, specifically inspection and sealing of weights and measures for mass and volume as required by Philippine Metrology Laws. The Center here will be the satellite office of the National Metrology Laboratory of the Philippines under the DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI).
CEBU CITY, Cebu (PIA) — The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE-7) and the Makati Development Corporation (MDC) has launched the 2013 KAPATIRAN project adopting the Big Brother-Small Brother concept. DOLE-7 information officer Emmanuel Ferrer said large companies (Big Brothers), as part of their corporate social responsibility and using their own resources and expertise, help and assist small companies (Small Brothers) in complying with labor standards including safety and health in the workplace. DOLE-7 regional director Chona Mantilla thanked the MDC for its voluntary involvement and for choosing to enroll under the DOLE KAPATIRAN project.
