Maj. Sherlock Gabana, station commander, said that Staff Sgt. Luduvico Dela Raya, duty jailer of the said police station, posted bail of P18,500 after he was charged for the offense before the City Prosecutor’s Office, also on Friday.
Gabana said that Dela Raya did not notice that James Brisuela, 36, of Barangay 3 here, was able to go out of jail around 3:40 a.m.
Gabana said that Brisuela used a wood covered with cloth to cut a portion of the jail’s steel bar to escape without noise.
“He (Brisuela) was the only one who escaped among the 19 other detainees at the jail,” the station commander added.
Brisuela surrendered to Col. Henry Biñas, Bacolod City police director, the following day, through the help of a local radio station here.
Brisuela, who was previously arrested for an illegal drug offense on May 4, requested to be placed under the custody of Police Station 1 because of fear from his co-detainees at Police Station 2, following his escape.
During his talk with Biñas, Brisuela said he regretted what he did, and apologized for what happened.
Meanwhile, Lt. Col. Ariel Pico, public information officer of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), said that Dela Raya and other duty personnel at the time, including Gabana will be subject to investigation.
