Coast Guard tallies over 100,000 sea travelers on Maundy Thursday

By Betheena Unite More than 100,000 outbound passengers were monitored in various ports in the country from Wednesday night to Thursday morning, the Philippine Coast Guard said. Philippine Coast Guard (MANILA BULLETIN) Philippine Coast Guard (MANILA BULLETIN) Starting 6 p.m. of Wednesday until midnight, a total of 70,504 outbound passengers were recorded in different ports across the country, according to Coast Guard. Another 29,910 travelers were then monitored until Thursday morning. Most of the passengers were in various ports in Southern Tagalog while the rest of the bulk of travelers were found in ports in Manila, Cebu, Bohol, Southern Cebu, Camotes, Zamboanga, Coron, Batangas, Oriental Mindoro, Southern Quezon, Occidental Mindoro, Romblon, Aklan, Iloilo, Davao, Sorsogon, and Masbate. Some were also monitored in several ports in Northern Mindanao, Eastern Visayas, and Southern Visayas. The Philippine Coast Guard is on heightened alert due to the expected massive influx of passengers during the Holy Week. The "Malasakit Help Desk" has also been activated for the Coast Guard's "Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Semana Santa 2019."
